An honest introduction
You do not need experience before you begin. You do need a willingness to listen, practise consistently and treat others with respect.
Before you begin
Is Kyokushin right for you?
Kyokushin training is welcoming, but it is not casual. Classes require attention, effort and respect for the dojo and the people around you.
You do not need to become fit before starting. Fitness, flexibility and confidence develop through training. Students are supported, but they are also expected to persevere when the work becomes difficult.
What to expect
Classes begin and end formally. Students line up by grade, follow the instructor and move promptly when directed.
Training includes repetition, conditioning and partner work. Contact is introduced appropriately under supervision.
Beginners start with fundamentals: posture, stances, strikes, blocks, movement and basic dojo etiquette.
No grade is guaranteed. Improvement comes through regular attendance, patient correction and accumulated practice.
Your first class
Wednesday, 5:30–6:15pm is the dedicated beginner session. General classes are also open to beginners.
Allow time to find the basement dojo, meet the instructor and become familiar with the space.
Comfortable clothing suitable for exercise is fine for a first class. Remove jewellery and keep fingernails and toenails short.
Your first class is without charge. There is no obligation to join; the purpose is to experience the training properly.
